The Werewolf vs. The Vampire Woman

Paul Nash stars as the werewolf "Waldemare Daninsky" in this 1970 Spanish horror movie. Two inquisitive women, Elvira and Genievive are driving through the countryside on a quest to seek out the truth about Countess Wandessa, the mistress of the devil himself. When the two come across a castle and are nearly out of gas, Waldemare offers the two young ladies shelter in the castle for the evening.

Over dinner, Genievieve reveals that she and Elvira are on the hunt for the countess. This causes great stress for Waldemare who is very familiar with the history of the vampire Countess Wandessa. After a scary run in with Walamere's sister in the castle, Genievieve convinces Waldemare to join them on their quest. When Elvira and Waldemere find the Countesse's tomb, Elvira reaches into the tomb and pulls out the silver cross that had punctured the heart of the countess. Elvira's grip on the cross causes a gash to her hand and the blood lands on the teeth of the skeleton of Countess Wandessa. This of course causes the vampire to revive and return to finish the devils work of ruling the earth. After Elvira is seduced by the Countess into joining the dark side, Waldemare is forced to explain to Genevive that he is a werewolf. All of this leads to the ultimate showdown between Waldemare and Countess Wandessa.

I really enjoyed this film. The pace of the editing intensified the sense of violence in scenes depicting Waldemare and the Countess attacking their helpless victims. The lighting and choice of colors used in the movie set the mood. The soundtrack led took you by the hand through the film, sometimes making you feel as if you are peeking around the corner and witnessing a horror you should not see.

This is a fun movie to watch if you are having a bad day and want something to take your mind off of work, the bills or anything else for that matter. The only advice I can give is not to plan on eating after seeing all of the bugs crawling around inside the skeleton of the Countess. I really thought she was hot, then the bugs killed it for me.
