Brotherhood Of Death

Three African Americans are on their way by bus to join the Army and the fight in Vietnam. On the way to the Army recruiting center, they stop for gas and a white couple stop at the gas station as well. The white male makes a racist comment about how blacks mate and reproduce like mad. This leads to a showdown at the gas station and threats exchanged. After spending some time in the Army and serving their country proudly in Vietnam, they return home to find that racism is as big a problem as it was before the Army.

One afternoon when a young black man is beat up and his girlfriend is raped by a group of whites, the three men who spent time in the service decide it is time to do something about the racism in Kincaid County. So they find out who committed the rape and set out to teach him a lesson. In the middle of the night, they beat Leroy who is the leader of the racist pigs within an inch of his pathetic life. Leroy tries to play it off to the lack Kincaid County Sherriff that what happened to him was wrong and he did nothing to deserve it. However the Sherriff was on to him and let him know that if Leroy knew what was good for him, he would keep his mouth shut because everyone knew it was he that raped the black girl.

After this the three ex-army soldiers meet with a local preacher who leads others in his church to step up and make a change in the community by voting people out of office that will not protect the rights of blacks in the community. By the bus load, blacks are showing up to register to vote. When the Klan find out what is going on, they set fire to the voter registration office. It’s war! The war takes some difficult twist when it is learned that the county prosecutor is the leader of the Klan and the county deputy is a member as well.

The first thirty minutes of the movie is very choppy. The editing is not very good and the story falls apart for a short while. Unless you are really paying attention, you can loose track of the story and wish you found something else to watch. However around the forty-five minute mark, the story regains steam and recovers nicely and keeps you interested till the very end.
