First Spaceship on Venus

A spool has fallen from outer space and discovered in 1985. A group of people led by dr. chin feel this meteor is actually a fragment from a spaceship that blew up while trying to enter the earths atmosphere in 1905 from then planet Venus. The aliens from Venus make an attempt to contact the people of earth. The decision is made to send a crew and ship to Venus. The ship is called “Cosmotrator one”. African Americans and women are shown in non traditional rolls for when the movie was made. Black scientist and a female astronaught.

The crew chosen for the Cosmotrator is made up of several white males, one female and one black male. The movie was made in 1960 and considering how women and African Americans were looked upon, this movie did a nice job of placing minorities in leadership rolls.

After hundred’s gathered watched the successful launch of the ship and it’s crew, the astrounughts encounter a massive meteor show that damages the underneath of the ship forcing the crew to do a spacewalk to repair the damage.

Just days away from arriving on the planet Venus, the scientist on board were able to decode the message received from the fart away planet. It is learned that the Martians on Venus were planning to launch an intergalactic atomic war on planet earth. The crew had to decide if they should proceed with the mission knowing how dangerous it could be, or to proceed as planned. They choose to move forward. However, a few of them would never return!

Once on Venus, the crew discovers small mechanical bugs. They take one back to ship and after several painstaking hours of research, it is discovered that the bugs are like little encyclopedias that have information about the technology used by the inhabitants of Venus and their plans to destroy the earth!

The print this movie was taken from if any print was used at all was very poor and at times the images were very dark and hard to see. When the African American member of the team was on screen, all you could make out were teeth and eyes. The sound near the beginning of the film was slipping and it took at good twenty minutes into the movie for the sound to sync up. Still the movie was fun and the dangers encountered by the team made for some great storytelling.
